A Mapping Tool to Find Your Family Name in Italy

There are 209 families with the Finzi name in Italy. This is what I discovered after using the mapping tool on the ITALIANNAMES.COM website. The tool is one of the best of this type that I've found on the Web. It's easy to use and can zoom into to particular regions. After typing in your family name and doing the initial search, click the "see how they are distributed in Italy" button. You will get a map of Italy numbering how many families have your name in each region. Click on a particular region and it will zoom in to show the towns they are living in.

If you want to find out more specifics, you could look up your family name in the Italian White Pages along with the name of a town and get both addresses and phone numbers.

In case you want to know what your family names mean, here is a site which lists the Origins and Etymology of Italian Surnames... both the meaning and where the name originated.

Good luck in your family research!

Margherita Coppe

Hi I am searching for my father's family. My father's name Silvino Coppe, my grandfathers name Ricardo Coppe, my grandmothers name Lucia Coppe (Miotto), my aunts name Margherita Coppe. Unsure of her married name. My father's family lived in Segusino in northern Italy. I hope to make a connection to my family. Kind regards Margherita Coppe

Margherita, I just checked on the Italian White Pages and found a lot of people with the surname Coppe liiving in the town of Segusino.

Link: https://www.paginebianche.it/persone?qs=coppe&dv=Segusino%20(TV)

There is also a Facebook page called I Love Segusino with 677 followers. Perhaps you can find info there. In addition, check out Azienda Agricola Coppe Alessandro ... link: https://www.facebook.com/AziendaAgricolaCoppeAlessandro.

They are a cheese maker in Segusino with Coppe in their business name.

I would also do Facebook searches for "Coppe", to find people living in Segusino.

Have you joined Ancestry yet? I'm still finding people linked by DNA to me.

In my opinion, you don't have to spend money on a genealogy researcher... and it's more fun doing it yourself!
Good luck.

I forgot another tip... when contacting postential Italian relatives, install a translator app or use Google Translate when writing your messages to them. It's not a perfect translation, but if you write plainly (no slang or jargons) Italians will understand most of what you are trying to say.

Here's a great way to find family members in Italy (It helped me)... Facebook. There is a page for your family's town: https://www.facebook.com/groups/283314458484874/about/

Good luck!

Hi I’m looking for information on my great great grandparents Ottina-Maiolo who left Torino, Italy around 1900 and moved to Cordoba, Argentina. Thanks

Hello, I am looking for an institution or organization that can help me find the origin of my last name, we have little information but neither the consulates nor the embassies have been able to help me. We have little information about my grandfather Ricardo Benvenuto Velatti arrived from Mexico and immigrated to the USA on June 10, 1918 approximately.

Seems to me that you have to research where, when and how your grandfather came into Mexico first. I would be sure he wouldn't have come through Ellis Island if he emigrated to Mexico first, and then emigrated to the U.S. directly from Mexico.

According to Ancestry, "...from the medieval personal name Benvenuto meaning ‘welcome’ (from Old Italian bene ‘well’ + venuto ‘arrived’). Generally it was an omen or well-wishing name given to a long-awaited and much-desired child."

It's a fairly common name that can be found in most regions of Italy. If you know where he lived in Mexico, find a related Facebook page and ask around for other Mexicans still living there who might have the name Benevento.

Good luck,

Jerry F.
